My Story: Two Decades with Silk Duvets — and Why I Want to Share It With You

Comfort isn’t always found in trends. Sometimes, it’s something you’ve quietly relied on for years.

My relationship with silk duvets wasn’t born out of a passing trend—it has been a quiet, consistent part of my life for over twenty years.

It began in China, where I grew up in a family that took bedding seriously. Regardless of the season, we always slept under silk duvets. Not because they were considered luxurious, but because they were dependable. Lightweight, breathable, and naturally thermoregulating, silk duvets were simply part of what made a home feel complete. As a child, I didn’t think much about it. But I still remember that unmistakable feeling: soft, fluid warmth that hugged the body without smothering it. The kind of comfort that didn’t need to announce itself—it just worked.

Since then, I’ve moved homes, changed cities, and even crossed continents. But one thing has stayed the same: I never stopped sleeping under silk.

When I relocated to Calgary, Canada, I began to feel that difference even more. The climate here is dry and full of contrast—intense sun, cold winters, big day-to-night temperature swings. Winters are long and dry, while summer days can be hot but the evenings drop quickly. The indoor climate—central heating in winter, air conditioning in summer—can be tough on the skin and the senses, especially at night. I tried every type of duvet available locally: down, cotton, synthetic blends. Some were too stuffy, some felt heavy, some left me waking up in a sweat—or shivering.

It wasn’t until the second year after moving that I brought a silk duvet back from China. That first night under it, something shifted. My body relaxed the moment I slipped under the covers. I didn’t toss or turn. I didn’t overheat. I just slept—deeply, quietly, like I had returned to something I didn’t even realize I was missing.

Over the years, I’ve used many silk duvets. I’ve come to understand their differences not from reading reviews, but from years of firsthand experience. And what I now insist on is this: 100% long-strand mulberry silk, made from double cocoon silk. Double cocoon silk is rare—formed when two silkworms spin a single cocoon together, creating fibers that are stronger, naturally interwoven, and more elastic. These qualities allow the silk to be hand-stretched into full sheets—not stitched together from scraps or bonded with glue. A true long-strand silk duvet doesn’t clump, doesn’t shift, and retains its shape for years. You don’t just see the difference—you feel it, every night.

Guests who’ve stayed at our home often ask, “What is this duvet? It’s unlike anything I’ve ever used.” And I would smile and say, “It’s silk—but not the kind you typically find in stores.” That’s when I began to wonder: How many people in Canada are quietly looking for something better, but don’t know where to find it?

That’s why I started QUIVELLE.

We don’t make what we’ve never used ourselves. At QUIVELLE, we only offer what I’ve trusted for years: 100% long-strand double cocoon mulberry silk, with no synthetic fillers, no broken fibers, and absolutely no adhesives. Every duvet is hand-layered by skilled artisans, made not for appearances—but for durability, breathability, and comfort you can rely on for a decade.

We take pride in quality, but we’re equally committed to accessibility. We don’t believe great sleep should be a luxury reserved for a few. Our pricing reflects our belief that natural, long-lasting comfort should be within reach for every household—not just high-end boutiques.

I didn’t fall in love with silk bedding overnight. I came to rely on it—quietly, steadily, over twenty years of life’s changes and seasons. And now, I want to share that quiet reliability with you.

If you’ve tried every duvet but still feel like something’s missing…
If you often wake up unsure if it was too hot or too cold…
If you’re tired of replacing your bedding every couple of years and want something made to last…
Then maybe—just maybe—it’s time to try real silk.

Not just a label that says “silk,” but the kind your body recognizes the moment you lie down.
The kind that wraps you in a kind of comfort that feels earned, not advertised.

I hope that one day, you’ll pull up the covers, feel that soft, weightless calm,
and like I did many years ago, quietly think to yourself:
“This… this is how I’m supposed to sleep.”
